Rachael shares the secret that big cosmetic companies don't want you to know

Are you sick of product companies constantly trying to grab your attention (and dollars!) with flashy claims about what miracles their ‘anti-ageing’ products will perform?

Upon investigation you probably come up with one of three verdicts:

  1. It has the same active ingredients as so many others on the market – so why claim to be ‘new’?
  1. It actually has no beneficial ingredients in it whatsoever.
  1. There is no real evidence to back up ANY of the claims it is making (no published data, no clinical trials)

Well here’s another verdict that should be reached on many products promoted as being ‘anti-ageing’ and it’s one you’ve probably never even heard of – but my, it’s a biggie!

Back in 1965 a curious scientist called Dr Leonard Hayflick made a remarkable discovery that would change the way scientists and humankind view ageing. Dr. Hayflick noticed that cells grown in cultures reproduced by dividing. Most of us have at least a basic understanding of cell division from high school science. To recap, cells produce copies of themselves (the process is called mitosis) and one cell divides to make two. ‘Cell division’ lets keep it simple, ok?

Dr Hayflick was the first to notice a phenomena while watching these cells divide – they could not go on dividing forever. There was a finite number of times that the cell division process could occur before it stops and the cell dies (cell senescence). Right up to this point scientists had believed that cells would go on dividing, reproducing, repairing…forever!

The implications of the Hayflick limit are staggering. It means we have a molecular clock that’s winding down from the moment we’re born! Dr Hayflick didn’t know it at the time but that clock is called a telomere.

Work from Yale University was published in 1978 describing the unusual nature of ’tails’ on the ends of our chromosomes, called Telomeres. Each time a cell divides the telomere shortens. More investigation went on to prove that the telomere was indeed the clock that scientists had been searching for. At each cell division the telomeres got shorter and when they reached a certain length the cell could no longer divide and it would die.

Quite simply, a newborn baby has very long telomeres and someone who is about to die of old age has many critically short ones.

In 2009 Elizabeth Blackburn, Carol Greider, and Jack Szostak were awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for the discovery of how chromosomes are protected by telomeres and the enzyme telomerase.

So, we know what ageing is and what causes it. This is huge – and scientists have known for quite some time. The discovery of telomeres was so important it was awarded a Nobel Prize. But since then, a scientist called Dr Bill Andrews has discovered how to stop and even reverse ageing using the enzyme telomerase.

Let’s quickly recap: Cell division causes ageing and telomeres shortening are the sign of ageing. Telomeres can produce an enzyme called Telomerase, that can stop and even reverse ageing.

Dr Andrews was awarded National Inventor of the year and his discovery touted as the biggest medical breakthrough since antibiotics – but why hasn’t this information taken over all mainstream headlines???

In a nutshell, it would close down the multi-billion dollar ‘anti-ageing’ skincare industry. There’s a reason the cosmetic powerhouse companies are not advertising this scientific fact. And it’s not to do with the health of your skin, it’s dollars.

Let me explain.

If you take on board that cell division = ageing (and let’s face it, this is fact) then EVERY skincare product claiming to:

INCREASE CELLULAR TURNOVER

BRING NEW CELLS TO THE SURFACE

DEEPLY EXFOLIATE (causing cell turnover to speed up)

REGENERATE YOUR SKIN (presumably by creating cell division and new, fresh cells)

Are actually PROMISING TO AGE YOUR SKIN FASTER!!!

And thus far in the skin industry pretty much every product claiming to make you look younger is doing so by actually ageing you faster in the long term.

You might feel this is an ok trade off, for immediate vanity’s sake. But the problem is that NO-ONE knows what that will look like on a 70, 80, 90 year old. If you unnaturally speed up the ageing process on one part of your body to the point where those cells all die, literally self-imploding when they cannot divide anymore – WHAT DOES THAT LOOK LIKE?

We know that the longer your telomeres the less likely you are to develop cancer, so could we ascertain that if an area is ridden with critically short telomeres that it is much more likely to develop cancer? And if a skin cancer is cut out of your face and the telomeres are too short to divide anymore then the skin cannot knit back together to heal. Healing and repair become impossible because the body does this through cell division.

What makes me angry, is HOW LONG science has known about the Hayflick Limit. 1965. And companies are still lying to consumers about what effect their products are actually having on their skin.

I mentioned Dr Bill Andrews and the cure for ageing. Yes, it has been proven. Not just by him but by Harvard and the aforementioned Nobel Prize winners among others.

The answer lies in part of our DNA, in a gene called Telomerase. If this gene is active when the telomere shortens telomerase expresses an enzyme (also called Telomerase) which finds it’s way to the telomere and re-lengthens it again. It literally stops the ageing process. When Harvard University proved that if you could express enough Telomerase you could actually reverse ageing, it would be logical to conclude they gave proof that the fountain of youth is actually already inside us, waiting to be switched on.

Dr Bill Andrews of Sierra Sciences gave up being an acclaimed cancer biologist and researcher to pursue his quest to cure ageing using Telomerase. As the man who identified human telomerase his research in this area is unsurpassed. He has discovered the strongest molecules in the world that work at switching on the telomerase gene inside each cell. The strongest so far is coined TAM-818 (Telomerase Activating Molecule) the ‘818’ being a nod to it being the 314,818 molecule screened for Telomerase activity.

With more research, this molecule could be set to become the world’s first anti-ageing drug eradicating all age related diseases such as alzeimhers, dementia, possibly even cancer by keeping telomeres long. In fact most diseases we know of can have the root of their cause drawn back to critically short telomeres. Unfortunately due to FDA and the millions it takes to get through the approval process we won’t have this available to us for several years.

In the meantime, TAM-818 has also been proven to visibly reverse ageing of the skin is backed by Dr Andrews in a topical skin serum called One Truth 818. It is sold by Dr Andrews through the marketing arm of his research facility ‘Chase Life Extension Foundation’ to provide royalties to continue research into curing ageing.

Using One Truth 818 Serum is a far cry from your well earned coffers paying for glossy ads in magazines by large corporations who are taking your money and making you older! One Truth 818 Serum does what it says it will for you while your purchase helps to progress disease eradication – win win!

Furthermore, the scientific trials at Abich Labs in Italy (all independent) are unprecedented compared to any of the major cosmetic companies because, presumably, they have information that they would prefer be hidden from you.

I don’t know about you, but to me ANTI ageing means it’s undoing the ageing process, right? It should be working against ageing. TAM-818 is the only product that re-lengthens telomeres and reverses the actual (I mean scientifically accepted) ageing process, then surely this should be the only product allowed to bare the claim ‘anti-ageing’?

Every other ‘anti-ageing’ product is completely misleading…

Knowing what I know now I will never again ‘treat’ my skin with anything promising to age it faster, no matter how good they make it sound. I’m not interested in being part of a guinea pig generation of increased cellular turnover. I will not compromise my health for temporary vanity.

Cell division IS ageing and my mantra is to fight against that.
